Dog 'Paw-traits' are now available to book!

I have wanted to branch out into pet photography for a while, after all, about half of clients who come to me for their photos have dogs at home. But with busy work and home life leaving me little time to practice and explore the world of dog photography I haven't been able to, until now.

Another reason is that I didn't want to come across as a jack-of-all-trades, photographing anything and everything, where my main focus over the years has been baby and family photography. But I realised, dogs are a huge part of a family, they are loved just as much as any other family member! To some families, dogs are their fur-babies. So, this is the year I finally offer Dog Photography either as a mini session just photographing your dog(s) - 'Pet Paw-traits' -or as part of a full Family Photoshoot at an outdoor location, in or around York. You can find information about my full Family Photography sessions here. For information about the mini sessions keep reading!

'Pet Paw-trait' mini photoshoots in York.

Where will they take place?

- There are plenty of suitable and photogenic outdoor locations in and around York for dog photography, these include the larger park areas like The Homestead, Westbank Park and Rowntrees Park, down by river along the scenic walkways, large open areas like hob moor or Rawcliffe Park... anywhere really that is dog-friendly and easily accessible for us all, that has greenery and shade options on really bright days. I am always open to suggestions of new places to explore!

When will they take place?

- Unlike other mini sessions which are seasonal, dog photography can take place all year round as long as it isn't raining or blowing a gale. So if you would like to book a photoshoot, I will give you available times to choose from over the coming weeks and this availability will be on weekdays and some weekends and will be weather dependant; if a booked outdoor photoshoot cannot go ahead due to bad weather it will be postponed to the next available and convenient time for us both.

What can I expect?

- Beautiful portraits of your dog(s)! I aim to capture a gorgeous variety of images that capture the personality and essence of your dog, fun and playful images of their goofy smiles and mad dashes to catch the ball or fetch the stick, handsome portraits while they sit or lay down, wet noses, whiskers and bright eyes. It's amazing how many different images I can capture in the session time.

-Mini sessions last around 30 minutes.

What do I need to bring?

- Treats! Any kind of doggy treats is a must, not only to help gain focus and attention to commands like 'sit', but also to reward good doggy behaviour and a successful photoshoot.

- A ball is a good idea if your dog is used to fetching one, we can use this for some running action shots.

- A lead; some dogs will be fine off-lead at all times, some will require it to walk between different spots at our location or when passing near other dogs. Understandably, some dogs will require being on the lead at all times during the photoshoot -this is ok! If you have a long thin lead that would be advantageous so that it is quicker to edit out of images than a short thick one. And bringing along someone else to the photoshoot, it means one of you can hold the lead off to the side while the other helps gain your dogs attention if myself alone isn't interesting enough for them.

Can I jump in the photos with my dog?

- I don't mind capturing one image at the end of the shoot with 1 owner (additional owners are £10 each), however once we start including children and the whole family it turns into a family photoshoot and requires more time and work arranging the images and editing after, so please book in for a family photoshoot if you would like images with children and family so that we can do a lovely variety and take our time achieving these.

How much does it cost?

-The session fee is £25, this is due at the time of booking to secure your chosen slot and is non-refundable, however this can be transferred to another date if the original booking one cannot go ahead due to illness or bad weather. Please note this fee is for the session only and does not include any images. There are three packages available for mini Pet Paw-trait sessions to choose from after viewing your images;

-Package 1 - £99 - 5 digital images both as digital downloads and 5"x 7" loose prints.

-Package 2 - £149 - 10 digital images both as digital downloads and 5"x 7" loose prints, plus two 8"x 6" luxury mounted prints.

-Package 3 - £199 - All of your images as digital downloads, ten 5"x 7" loose prints and two 10"x 8" luxury mounted prints.
